Bonneville County is now accepting applications for the following position:

Position:           Part Time Probation Tech - Male
Starting Salary: Pay Grade 8 - starting salary $12.26
Work Hours:     19 hours a week
Closing Date:    Applications will be accepted through May 7, 2017 at 5:00 P.M.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of entry level technical duties and working level administrative and clerical duties to assist probation officers with adult misdemeanor case work and documentation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the close supervision of the Lead probation officer.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

None

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists probation officers with case management, preparing and maintaining probation case files and related documentation; conducting or facilitating Saturday morning orientation of probationers; scheduling appointments for the probation officers to meet with probationers as needed; preparing and submitting various documentation, reports, correspondence and other related documents.

Conducts regular meetings with probationers and performs follow up to verify and document compliance with terms and conditions of probation case plan including verification of employment, place of residence, completion of community service hours, attendance at required counseling and treatment programs, and other related appointments.

Performs random drug or alcohol testing on individual probationers to assure probationary compliance.

Attends court hearings as needed to facilitate communication between probation and the courts; maintains contact with judges, employers, family members as needed to follow compliance and actions in supervising minimum level probationers; maintains contact with treatment providers.

Tracks minimum supervision probationers to monitor fine payments and legal involvement; may accompany officers on home visits or when serving warrants.

Assists the Probation Secretary by receiving visitors, answering phones, making appointments, filing, entering data, and preparing various reports and correspondence as directed.

Conducts weekly morning orientation of probationers; may conduct one-on-one orientations with non-English speaking probationers.

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education and Experience:
    A. Two (2) years of post high school education in Social Sciences or a related field;
        AND
    B. One year of responsible work experience;
        OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Some Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice system as it relates to probation; social sciences; substance abuse evaluation and treatment methods; interpersonal communication skills; common safety and security practices; basic office practice and use of the computer.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; maintain confidentiality; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; deal effectively with people in potentially dangerous situations; develop effective working relationships with probationers, legal professionals, supervisors, co-workers, treatment providers and the public.

3. Special Qualifications:

Basic typing and data entry.

4. Work Environment:

Functions of the position are generally performed in a controlled environment. Some functions of the work pose a degree of hazard uncertainty. Physical readiness and conditioning may be a condition of job retention. Various levels of mental application required, i.e. memory for details, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, creative problem solving. Some weekend work will be required and daily hours may vary.
